Wilbur’s Blue Ribbon: A Flavor Inspired by Charlotte’s Web

When I started dreaming up Fabled Ice Cream, I always wanted each flavor to have a story. Our newest creation, Wilbur’s Blue Ribbon, is inspired by one of my all-time favorite books, Charlotte’s Web. If you’ve seen the animated movie, you might remember Templeton’s song at the fair - “a veritable smorgasbord!” That scene always stuck with me, I loved the unhinged little farm rat gobbling down all his treats. (Kind of like me, with ice cream?) It is such a funny, joyful little moment.

I wanted to capture that feeling in a flavor that speaks to kids and adults alike. The base is a cotton candy ice cream - playful and nostalgic, but made with all-natural, organic flavoring sourced from a company called Nature’s Flavors. No dyes, no additives, nothing artificial. For the classic fairground blue, we use spirulina, a natural plant-based color. The result is bright, whimsical, and clean-label. 

One of my very first at-home iterations of Wilbur’s Blue Ribbon - I’ve been working on this flavor since April! Here’s the blue hue I love, just like the book cover and classic cotton candy blue. 

To give the flavor a touch of sophistication, we added a delicate webbing of white chocolate throughout. It ties the flavor back to Charlotte herself, spinning her threads across Wilbur’s world.

The new collectors edition is just stunning.

It’s sweet and playful for kids, but with a little grown up crunch from that white chocolate, sort of like a stracciatella you’d find in gelato. Wilbur’s Blue Ribbon is our tribute to a literary classic that continues to bring joy across generations. Like the book, this flavor is timeless.
